the stone unturned
busy feet run and splash among the tidepools
tiny fingers turn each starfish, shell and stone
gray-blue eyes brim with bright determination
to reveal what lies unkown
you and I are careful not to get our shoes wet
we shake our heads, wondering how time went by so fast
but there’s one question we don’t dare to ask...
side
by side we vow this bond unbroken
day by day the lesson’s lived but never learned
eye
to eye we flirt with things unspoken
then
look away and leave the stone unturned
on this beach we once walked arm in arm as lovers
trading wishes, taking every word to heart
we bought a house, built a family together
and slowly grew apart
in our heads we hear the voices of our parents
“Think of the children, stay together for their sake”
we swore we’d never make that same mistake...
side
by side we vow this bond unbroken
day by day the lesson’s lived but never learned
eye
to eye we flirt with things unspoken
then
look away as though we’re unconcerned
side
by side we vow this bond unbroken
day by day the lesson’s lived but never learned
eye
to eye we flirt with things unspoken
then
look away and leave the stone unturned
